Warehouses deal with two challenges that seem to get tougher every year: keeping up with productivity demands and filling open positions.

Ecommerce sales have driven so much growth and demand for productivity they have created over 452,000 new warehousing and distribution jobs since 2018. The beginning of 2021 sees an unemployment rate of 6.7%, leaving a larger base of potential employees, however, necessary skill levels may be lacking.

The variance of skilled laborers suggests that improvements in technology from scanning and data recording to faster label printing and carts or forklifts that become mobile workstations.

Wrist and Ring Scanners

Handheld scanners are a staple in warehousing but repetitive picking up and putting down wastes thousands of seconds that add up. Ring scanners become an extension of the worker’s hand that is activated as easily as touching fingers together. These scanners wired or wirelessly connected to a small mobile computer, that can be strapped easily onto a forearm, have become the complete answer for near-range data collection at its fastest.
