Android Enterprise Recommended Devices

There's no denying it, the cell phone's form factor and intuitive touch screen have become a part of nearly everyone's life. This familiarity has driven how some industrial mobile devices are made. Referred to as hand-held or phone-size rugged devices, they are built for much greater reliability compared with a consumer cell phone.

Rugged devices are built to meet a certain IP-rating which refers to the device’s "impact protection". Consumer mobile devices either don't have an IP rating or it is too low to meet any standards. In addition, rugged mobile computers and tablets, include longer battery life, drop-resistance, rugged cases, moisture resistance and, greater screen sensitivity that work with ringers, pointers or gloves.

What differentiates between Consumer versus Rugged Enterprise Device

A consumer device will have a battery that cannot be replaced or upgraded and lack a robust barcoding scanner. IP ratings are also typically for ingress and egress of dust and moisture or liquid emersion. An enterprise device is designed for use of 5 to 10 years, where a consumer device often requires replacement after 3 to 4 years. Typically, rugged enterprise devices are often lower cost than consumer devices, which is the opposite of what most would expect.

Android Enterprise Recommended

Android Enterprise Recommended is a Google-led project that helps clients find the best-equipped solution for Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) to successfully deploy their Android devices. This software enables developers, through APIs and other tools, to incorporate Android support into their EMM solutions. Maintaining stable and protected corporate data is a top priority for companies and that is the primary reason why Google has recommended Android Enterprise to coincide with Google's security efforts.

The suggested software for Android Enterprise was molded to frame the best Android phones from manufacturers who are bound to keep the devices protected and simplify bulk deployment. It helps make Android devices more enterprise-friendly. Enterprise customers can easily determine the best devices for their business use with Android Enterprise Recommended. Google provides technical support and training as part of validation.

The devices undergo a series of thorough testing against the best practices and common requirements laid by Google. The most essential requirements that need to be satisfied include:

The devices should satisfy the minimum hardware specifications for Android 7.0+ devices.

  • Support for zero-touch enrollment to allow bulk deployment of Android devices.

  • All Android security updates should be provided for a period of 3 years, within 90 days of Google's publication.

  • Unlocked devices should be available from the manufacturer or from the reseller directly.

  • The device should have a consistent application experience in managed profiles and on managed devices.

With the exception of Zebra, not all manufacturers have every one of their models tested and certified. Certification is given individually so every device must be tested and Android only approves those devices that meet all of the requirements needed by Google.

BarcodeFactory offers these Android Devices, along with services to update and upgrade OS, Security and compatibility with your ERP applications.
