How do Scannable Wristbands Work?

In terms of storing information, wristbands function like standard barcodes. Information is converted into a barcode, which is printed on the band. The only difference is that, instead of being stuck to an item, the wristband is looped around a person’s wrist. The barcode can be scanned with a handheld scanner, or the wearer can place their wrist under a fixed scanner to read it.
