Yes, there is a thermal printer that can print true two-color labels.

There are millions of thermal transfer printers that use a black thermal ribbon to print billions of barcodes every day. While the majority of these printers use a black ribbon for the most cost-effective labels, thermal transfer printers are capable of printing color simply by using a different colored thermal ribbon, such as blue, red, green or others. The drawback to this procedure is that most labels need a barcode which should be printed in black to be scannable. Printing labels twice, lining them up and making sure each one registers can be tedious and time consuming. Often, companies will rely on having their blank label rolls pre-printed with logos or warning information if it is consistent on each label.

Are there other options for two color thermal transfer printing? Yes. CAB printers, designed and manufactured in Germany, offer a two color thermal transfer printer that will high speed print two color labels in one pass, using two unique ribbon drive mechanisms’ that operate together. CAB makes the only true two-color thermal transfer printer currently on the market.  Each ribbon also has its own take-up spool, all enclosed in an industrial case, with multiple accessory add-ons.  See the CAB XC4 See the CAB XC6

One of the driving forces for this printer was the adoption of the GHS or Global Harmonized System mandatory for creating red and black warning labels. CAB printers are compliant to the GHS regulations for classification and labeling. CAB offers two industrial models that print 4 inch or 6 inch labels on 3 inch core rolls labels. The XC4 and XC6 two-color thermal printers each have ribbon-saver technology on one of the ribbon spindles. Because the color areas on most labels are less than the black text area, the ribbon-saver mechanism automatically adjusts the color ribbon to save space between each print area, thus using the least amount of color thermal ribbon with little waste. Any colored thermal ribbon can be used in to create label that easily identify their product.

Cablabel S3 offers multiple versions of software to help create and print labels using the CAB printers. Cablabel Lite come with each printer and allows the creation of simple 2-color labels. Pro version allows detailed labels for the professional industrial sector, and Print version is provided for users in production or warehouse. The user interface is simplified and allows for variable information.
